POLI 687: Political Leadership and Decision-Making
This course will explore the multifaceted phenomenon of political leadership, especially the ways in which executive officials and other political actors (including non-governmental actors) seek to make political change. We will devote a good amount of time to examining theoretical and historical analyses of one of the world’s most visible and controversial chief executives: the President of the United States. We will also consider theoretical treatments of the nature of political leadership, the question of the relation of morality to political leadership, and the dynamics of individual political leadership within a constrained, constitutional context.
