From "Peter Grogono"
Subject: Co-op Bookstore
To whom it may concern,
I believe that the Co-op Bookstore is performing an important service
for the Concordia Community. In addition to discounts, the co-op provides
a kind of service that the University Bookstore, by its nature, cannot
provide.
I have worked with the Co-op, and its manager Larissa Dutil, since
May 2004. The co-op did not sell a lot of books for, but this was
because my classes were small and many of the students already owned
the books from previous courses. Nevertheless, I found the co-op easy
to work with and more flexible than the University Bookstore.
The Co-op Bookstore should be encouraged to continue and to grow.
Sincerely,
Peter Grogono

Subject RE: Testimonial
To whom it may concern:
I am writing to inform you that the Concordia Community Solidarity
Co-op Bookstore managed by Larissa Dutil is an important institution
at Concordia University and should be supported by the university
administration. As a professor, who has used the Co-op bookstore for
three semesters and a total of 6 courses, I have nothing but praise
for the professional, conscientious, and friendly service provided
to me and my students. They have handled my book orders in a timely
manner, have provided excellent prices and benefits to students (including
a book consignment service), and friendly and helpful service to the
community at large. I plan on using the Co-op bookstore for all my
courses and have encouraged other faculty to also use their services
for their courses.
As the Co-op expands and provides services to more professors, students,
and courses it will need more space and accessibility, so I strongly
urge that the Concordia University administration to support and accommodate
their efforts in providing a unique and first rate community service.
If you have any further questions do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Arang Keshavarzian

Subject Re: Testimonial
I have been using the Co-op Bookstore since Fall 2004 with great success.
The Co-op has handled book orders for my SPAN 301 and 302 (1 textbook
and 2 reference books), and both I and my students were very satisfied
with the service. The books were there in sufficient quantity on time,
and my students appreciated the good price that the Co-op is able
to offer.
As coordinator for the Spanish language courses, I'm planning to expand
orders made through the Co-op for beginners and intermediate courses.
However, because of the big enrolment in those courses, it is absolutely
paramount that the Co-op have more space than they do in their current
location. I would therefore absolutely support that the Co-op be given
a space on the mezzanine. Incidentally, a space on the mezzanine would
also give the Co-op more visibility, and students would be able to
find the Co-op more easily.

I am writing to support the Coop Bookstore. They have supplied texts
for my courses and have done an excellent job. They are knowledgeable
and efficient. I believe that the principle of a student-university
co-operative should be supported and I believe the group managing
this one has made an important contribution to university life.

Subject Testimonial
Dear Dean Pruden:
Some time ago, I wrote to your predecessor, Donald Boisvert, in support
of the concept of a cooperative textbook store. Now that I have been
ordering my books from the Concordia Community Solidarity Co-op Bookstore
for the past couple of years, I can report that the experiment has
exceeded even my high expectations for it.
As a supplier of textbooks, a source of used materials, a promoter
of other reading material, and a contributor to student intellectual
life, in and outside the classroom, the CCSCB has become an important
part of our community. I want to be able to encourage my faculty to
order from the co-op and my students to patronize it, which means
that larger and more visible and accessible space--including disabled
access--is most desirable.
Because I am so eager to see the co-op expand its work, I hope you
will not hesitate to contact me if you feel you need a supplement
to this endorsement.
Yours sincerely,
Lillian S. Robinson, Ph.D.
