pTransforming Ourselves, Transforming the World: An Open Conspiracy for Social Change Brian K Murphy
Civil society, communitarianism, new social movements, NGOs - these are the watchwords of an age in which unprecedented numbers of people have joined organizations and involved themselves in social action. Yet, as Brian Murphy argues, many of us are pessimistic when confronted by the powerful forces of huge faceless corporations and the governments that serve them, about our ability to change anything. This book is for all those - community workers, development workers, social activists of every kind - who want to overcome pessimism and play a part in changing society in the direction of peace, justice and dignity for all human beings.

b Recreating the World: A Practical Guide to Building Sustainable Communities Judie Bopp
Rooted in decades of work with indigenous communities in the Americas, as well as extensive experience in Africa, Asia, the Pacific and the former Soviet Union, “Recreating the World” is really two books woven together. The first is a down-to-earth exposition of models, principles and strategies for understanding what community development is and how it can be promoted. The second is a rich collection of stories, games, activities and tools that can be used to help others to learn about various aspects of community development practice.
In this book, building sustainable community is presented as a primary strategy for solving critical human problems. Community building is not merely viewed as a means to an end, however. Sustainable community is a basic human need, and in its absence, human life becomes distorted, painful, and often self-destructive.

French Language Titles:

a Bien Commun Recherché: Une Option Citoyenne Françoise David

o De la Pensée à l'action: La personne au cœur du changement social Brian K. Murphy (French Language Version of "Transforming Oursevles, Transforming the World"

i

Autonomous Media : Activating Resistance and Dissent
Edited by Andrea Langlois and Frédéric Dubois

Communications, Media studies, Non-fiction

"Autonomous media activists deploy their weapons of choice – video cameras, spray cans, blogs, laptops – to liberate “meaning-making” from PR specialists and corporate board rooms. As they engage, connect, and project the voices of people around the world who are demanding freedom and justice, they crack open spaces in which social movements can grow and genuine democracy can flourish."

The Dead Beat Scrolls: The Incomprehensible Teachings of Harvey Christ Redeemer
by Reverends Norm, Anna Montana, Joalien & Randy Peters

Humour, Religion, Fiction (200+ illustrations +CD)

"Harvey Christ's paradoxical expression of both reverence and rebellion, low budget mystique wrapped in the baroque imagery of Catholicism, and a general bohemian respect for the absurd mirrored perfectly a time when all [in Montréal] were living in 4-bedroom apartments with 12-foot ceilings whilst scrounging for milk money."
-- Rufus Wainwright

For Everyone At The Back
by Kirk Johnson

Poetry

In this bold collection, Kirk Johnson is part archivist, biographer and archaeologist. Extracted from speeches, conversations, letters, manifestos and memoirs that chronicle the Bolshevik Revolution and the violent overthrow of the Russian Monarchy, the metrics of his historical method defy tradition. Though grounded in documentation, Johnson is more modern troubadour: his poems are part songs, part folk tales.

New short fiction by Thirteen writers under 25
Edited by Tom Abray & Neale McDevitt
Featuring Pain Was My Portion, A Trestle Chapbook short story of by Elisabeth Harvor

A murderous plot is hatched in a family home built of recycled outhouse wood. A soldier serving in Vietnam dives into a childhood tragedy after recognizing Gordie Howe during a prisoner exchange. A teenager is trapped in his dysfunctional home with his mother and her girlfriend, his homophobic father and a brother who thinks he's a tree. A young rebellious Tamil woman carries a secret that would scandalize her family and undo her pre-arranged marriage. An Edwardian mother is horrified to learn that her daughter visits the local cemetery with a dying house guest. Often poignant, with occasional gusts of the absurd, this collection showcases a baker's dozen of the next great wave of young literary talent.
